Risk taking and creativity go hand in hand - here's why!
One of the key traits of creative people is that they’re risk takers. They’re not afraid to put something new out into the world that might be laughed at. They don’t mind being dismissed as crazy. If you want to be a more creative person, this is a personality trait that you need to foster.
This article will help you become more comfortable with being willing to take risks and help you develop the right attitude toward risk taking so that your creativity can flourish!
How are risk and creativity related?
There are three fundamental rewards for creative people: new knowledge, new skills, and new understanding. Each of these builds on the last one; you can’t know something without being able to do it, you can’t do something without knowing how to do it, so on and so forth.
Taking Risks Will Bring You Out of Your Comfort Zone
Taking risks will require you to move out of your comfort zone. Some risks may turn out bad but there are rewards for creativity too. Just think of the potential reward of a chance meeting that can create a new business opportunity or thinking outside the box for an idea to solve a problem. By pushing yourself to be more creative, you’ll get out of your comfort zone which will force you to be more open-minded. Read more about to step out of your comfort zone.
What happens when we take risks?
We might get rejected; we might fall on our face. But that doesn’t matter because when we take risks, there is the reward of creativity. When we use our imagination, to think outside the box and create something new, we feel free. We don’t have to follow any predetermined rules or parameters; instead, we can design our own. Taking risks unlocks potential for all of us.
How do you encourage creativity and risk-taking?
Break out of your comfort zone as often as possible. The more you do it, the easier it will be. Start small. Try putting yourself in a new situation with people who are different from you. Challenge yourself to paint a new picture, write an essay about something different than you normally would, learn how to crochet when your hands shake because of anxiety or teach yourself how to code for the first time when you don’t know if you can do it or not.
How can we deal with failure when it happens?
Failure is part of the process, but what will make or break you is how you react to it. Be humble and own up to your mistakes. When it’s time to take another risk, don’t be afraid to give it a shot. Creative people love trying new things because they know that some risks may fail while others succeed. Remember that each failure means we’re one step closer to success!
